Race Team Training Rides

 

Monday

Meet at Boone County Historical Society, 3801 Ponderosa Street. First lap starts at 6p sharpAll are welcome. 

Course: (4-mile laps) Starts at Boone County Historical Society.  Clockwise loop. Four right turns.  Each leg is approximately 1 mile.  Small hill on the backside of the course.  "Race" pace depending on who shows and drives the peloton.  Excellent opportunity to practice group riding skills.  Usually 3-4 laps completed, any dropped or late riders can always jump back in on next lap.

 

Tuesday

Meet at Walt's Bike & Wilderness, Corner of Rogers & College Streets, Departs at 6p sharp. All are welcome.

Course: (25 miles) Group ride to Brown Station & HH intersection (2 abreast, no jumping, 15-17 mph pace), about 6 miles.

HH to Rte Z, race pace, about 6 miles to sprint at Murray. Wait for everyone at HH-Rte Z intersection. Proceed south on Rte Z, (2 abreast, 15-17 mph pace) to Mt Hope Road, about 2 miles.

Mt Hope to Rte PP, Race Pace, about 6 miles, Note: about 2 miles from the start of Mt Hope, it intersects with Kircher Rd.  There is a STOP sign and a blind turn.  CAUTION.  Turn left onto Kircher Rd, final sprint at Columbia city limit sign (about 3 miles), then roll back into town.

 

Wednesday

Road: Meets at 5pm at Gentry Middle School (on Bethel Rd between Nifong and South Hampton Blvd), Departs at 5p sharp. All are welcome.

Course: Ashland Loop (about 45 miles), Usually a fast-paced ride (18 mph+ average for the loop).  If a larger, more diverse group shows, ride can divide into several groups.  Loop takes about 2.5 hours.  Proceeds out Sinclair Rd, crosses Rte K onto Old Plank Rd, up hill to Smith Hatchery - (L)Woody Proctor - (R)Rte N - (L)Nashville-Sapp - (L)Rte MM - (L)Rte M - Ashland - Rte Y - (L)Rangeline Rd - New Haven to Grindstone and back to Gentry School.

Cross/Mountain: Meets at 6pm at Tryathletics. All are welcome.

Course: Varies from week to week, typical ride is 2 hours. Cyclocross or mountain bike depending on conditions - if Rock Bridge Trails are open (call 442-2249 to check), riding mountain bikes, otherwise bring cyclocross bike for some gravel road riding.

 

Thursday

Meets at Boone County Water District (Water Tower) south of Route Z exit on I-70 (exit 133). Starts at 5:40p or thereabout. All riders welcome.

Course: Out and Back course (about 25 miles) Race pace ride south on Rangeline to Rte Y and back.  Many groups and skill levels to choose from. Can't get lost and if dropped, simply catch back on as a group is returning north to the water tower. Stop signs at Rangeline-WW (East Broadway) , Rangeline-AB,  and Rangeline-H

 

Wear Your Helmet. Don't just be self sufficient (pump, tube, multitool) but carry an extra tube, bottle, food to share if needed.
